I’ve always operated the assumption that people basically want to do the right thing. The outcome of the election is beyond perplexing. I really don’t know anymore.
A cousin of mine shared an interesting connection between the events and agenda of the Trump administration and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The story speaks of the controversial controls over women’s freedoms and their role in a patriarchal, totalitarian, theonomic state. There are parallels to the Trump agenda. In the story and in Trump’s plan the government plans to make decisions to protect women even if they don’t realize they need the protection. That is not freedom.
I felt a sense of comfort and connection as I read your excellently worded post. I was pleasantly surprised that you used two key terms that I had recently used to explain the Republican Party and media: projection and cognitive dissonance! In fact I believe I shared this with the same person you later spoke with at the large dinner gathering! After the dinner she and I rode together in the same car and she shared your grief over the election. I was delighted amazed that you and I were of the same opinion! It’s for this reason that I immediately joined your group after our mutual friend relayed the website to me. There seem to be few Christian friends on the same page. I also spoke with you at the dinner but the election was not among our conversational topics.
An appropriate epistle of doom and inescapable gloom. Not enough sugar to sweeten the taste, not enough perfume to cover the stench. It’s going to be a “shit show” for the ages. We are acutely bereft of faith, hope, and love. But I’m allergic to nihilism, so I’ll hug Dostoyevsky’s “the world will be saved by beauty!” I’m shifting from words to images.
beyond perplexing. I am having to re callibrate.

Psychological detachment is where I am.
Everyone needs a "Ken Kemp" in their life. I am just so grateful you are in mine! Thanks Ken.
You are welcome, Darcy. 😎🙏🏻
I sent my post before finishing —

I love your writing voice! Thank you!
Yes, I too have thought often about the parallels. I not only devoured the series, but the book, too. It's a cautionary tale, for sure.

Thank you, Steve, for your encouraging words. I'm grateful - and glad I know you.

Thank you, Scott, for weighing in. May Dostoyevsky's words sink in. Let's get up and watch the sunrise tomorrow morning.
